Senior Missionary Conference in Copenhagen

This is the ferry that My Mom and Dad ride across the Kattegat to go to the island Copenhagen is on.  They drive an hour to get to Aarhus to get on the Ferry.  Then the Ferry ride is 75 minutes.  Their car goes on the Ferry with them.  Then they drive another hour to get to Copenhagen.

  It can hold 350 Cars and 1000 people!

Our Home in Herning, Denmark

This is Mom and Dad's apartment in Herning.  There are 6 apartments in this building.  Their's is the one on the left on the ground floor.

It rained every day the first month they were there.  The sun rises at 4AM and sets at 11PM.

This church is in their neighborhood.  It was build in the 12th century.  This is about 3 minutes away from their house.

They drive along this everyday on their way to the church, through a village named Lund.  Lund means grove of trees.

It was 1.5 hours and they drove their car right onto it. 

This was a Midsummers festival.  Tradition calls for them to eat and then burn a witch.  The plan was do burn a witch doll, I assume but it has been so rainy they were not able to do so this year.

A light lunch and social at the church on Sunday after the reorganization of the Herning Branch. The Herning Branch now includes the former Silkeborg Branch.This is now called the Mid-Jylland Branch.  They had to close down the Silkeborg Branch in order to strengthen the church in Mid-Jylland. There were 65 people in attendance Sunday, including one investigator from China. The previous week, before the reorganization, 9 people attended sacrament meeting.

Denmark

I have volunteered to take over updating the blog.  I hope that this will help my parents as well as let me be a part of this wonderful journey they are on.

My parents arrived in Denmark safe and sound on Friday June 17th.  They hadn't slept at all and were ready to go to sleep.  Once they got there they found out that they would not be serving the Young Single Adults anymore but were being transferred out to the country to serve the members. They took a 1.5 hour ferry ride to get to their new town. They are now in a small town named Herning.

The Church in Herning.  It is very small.  The Chapel seats 40 and only about 15 come to church.

  Right now they have no internet in their apartment so they come to the church each day and do what they need to with internet.

It is summer there now, the high is usually around 70-75 but lately it has been rainy and cold every day.  They have been needing to wear coats.

They told us about when they moved into their apartment in the country, they tried to plug into the outlets and the converters exploded blowing out all power in the apartment.  My Mom had to get ready without blow drying her hair for several days.  They were not sure how to contact someone to get this issue fixed, so they prayed for the missionaries to help.  As they were walking down the street  they ran into the Elders who helped direct them on who to call and let them use their phone as the mission phone could not be charged.  An electrician came an fixed the problem.  My parents took the missionaries out to lunch that day at a little cafe they had heard of, to thank them for their help.  The owner of the restaurant was there and my Dad ordered a"big" hot dog.  When the food was brought to the table it was a BIG hot dog.  My Dad took one bite and then had to spit it out.  The owner saw him do this and came over to the table to see what was wrong.  He couldn't believe that my Dad didn't like his food.  He went on an on about it.  Even asking if my Dad liked his Wife, because certainly no one could not like the food at his restaurant.  They smoothed things over and my Dad was able to get a smaller hot dog and they parted as friends.
My parent know that the Lord is always mindful of our needs and is there to help us in all situations.

Family Reunion

I thought it might be fun to show you all of the fun things we did before my parents left on their mission. We had all the siblings bring their families to Mckinney TX.  So many memories were made and it was such a blast.

The best thing I head during this trip from the kids was Addie and Brinley each telling me something about each other and referring to each other as that girl.  I asked them each if they knew what each others names were, and they both responded no.  So we had to have a little lesson in who's who.  Guess we should get together a little more often.
